black peony of language

let me strip you

 

of every petal

 

every metaphor

 

but even then you say

“follow me”

 

and gleam

alluring and fathomless

at your center

like a secret cave

 

a bluish heart

 

more metaphors

 

even bowed down to the mud

after the storm

your petals scattered

 

over the drying mud

 

I walk and later write

 

while slowly you open once again

 

as you were

no longer are

 

as yourself

so alluring and fathomless

in your depths

 

and saying

“follow me”
