Having left behind
so much
except your first, your final
weakness
persistent
like a forgotten heart
your only force left
—language, uncertain
fragments of faded homeland
(a homeland of sounds, of voiceless words)
strands of stories
shreds of feelings from the greater cloth
you still imagine
with those voiceless words
that do not fade into silence
that beat like a heart
that sew and tear
and resew
the torn garment
that is your life
Avendo lasciato indietro
così tanto
tranne la tua prima e ultima
debolezza
persistente
come un cuore dimenticato
come tua sola forza residua
una lingua incerta
frammenti di patria sbiadita
(una patria di suoni, di parole afone)
trefoli di storie
brandelli di sentimenti da un tessuto più grande
tu ancora immagini
con quelle parole afone
che non si smorzano nel silenzio
quel battito come un cuore
che cuce e strappa
e ricuce
il vestito strappato
che è la tua vita
